Summer Guitar Workshop I with Josh

This class is designed to teach the basic rudiments of music as it applies to the guitar. Students will learn correct posture, picking technique, fretting technique, basic rhythm patterns, harmony/chords, melody/scales, sight reading, ear training, songs in multiple genres, and how to play with other musicians. $150 - for students with their own guitar. A rental guitar for the week is $25. There is also a $10 materials fee.

A rental guitar for the week is $25. There is also a $10 materials fee.

Brazilian Rhythm Adventure

Send your child on a cultural journey to Brazil! This week-long summer camp will explore rhythms and stories from this rich culture via drumming, dancing, singing, clapping, and playing. Students will learn to sing traditional songs as well as learn the accompanying rhythms and dances. They will be exposed to Portuguese vocabulary and stories about Brazilian culture. Self-expression will be emphasized as students are encouraged to be creative and improvise. Students will develop musicianship, body awareness, coordination, self-expression, confidence, cultural awareness, teamwork, and language skills. $250 - July 13-17 camp offers an optional lunch from Sorella's for $40 served right after camp.

Strings Summer Camp with Thomas

Looking to get a heads up on your school orchestra program for the Fall? Or simply looking to have fun making music and improving your string playing over the Summer? Then sign up for the La Jolla Music Summer String Camp! This camp will give students the opportunity to improve their playing skills, play classical and popular music with students at a similar ability level, and enjoy working with other students to make beautiful music. Musical literature will cater to the average ability of the participant. Thomas has been leading the band and orchestra programs at all the San Diego Unified School District's La Jolla area elementary schools and has thoroughly enjoyed helping students make their first connections with making music. $240 - Includes lunch each day from Sorella's.

Flutophone Fantasia!

Young children love playing the flutophone because it's simple to play, easy to produce the correct sound with its whistle mouthpiece and the fingerings are transferable to the next step – playing recorder and the flute for Fall band! This junior music camp provides a super-fun, multi-faceted experience through music listening, creative arts activities, rhythmic games and flutophone ensemble experience. Each day has a special theme: Mozart's Magic Flute, Nutcracker, Bach Brothers, Peter and the Wolf, and Carnival of the Animals.

After this camp, continue on with Recorders Rock! camp. $225 and includes all materials. Optional lunch from Sorella's is $40 served right after camp.

Recorders Rock! Camp

Learn how to finger notes and read rhythms, advancing through 9 progressively graded songs, which earn different colored award ribbons. Playing recorder boosts ear, eye, and hand coordination, develops concentration; balances both brain hemispheres. Beyond the creative process, music builds discipline, patience and responsibility through practicing; confidence through attaining goals. These strong-minded principles carry over to academics, time management, and a unique self-awareness. After this camp, continue on with Silver Whistles Flute Camp. $150 and includes all materials. Optional lunch from Sorella's is $40 served right after camp.

Silver Whistles Flute Camp

Learning to play flute just got more fun! Music education provides an outlet for creativity and self-expression for all students, regardless of musical talent, and contributes to personal growth and satisfaction throughout life. Skills that will be developed include: (a) Technique: posture, hand position, tone development; (b) Rhythmic confidence and ability to read music better. Get a head start for Fall Band with this great development camp! $230 for students with their own silver whistle (flute). A rental flute for the week is $25. Optional lunch from Sorella's is $40 served right after camp.

Musical Theater with Sara - week 1

Designed to leave the individual confident in their ability to perform an audition, this camp will lead students through preparing an audition song and monologue as well as interactive acting exercises. Students will start with the rudiments of breathing, vocal expression and freer singing. During the week, students will learn both a solo audition song as well as experiment with some choral work. Through beginning acting exercises, improvisation exercises and learning a scene from a popular musical, students will learn the rudiments of physical expression and acting. $240 - includes lunch each day from Sorella's.

Musical Theater with Sara - week 2

Designed to leave the individual confident in their ability to perform an audition, this camp will lead students through preparing an audition song and monologue as well as interactive acting exercises. More advanced techniques of singing and projection. Focus is on creating a singer whose expression is free and direct. Students will either continue further work on an audition song (for those who took Voice/Acting 1) or will learn an audition song and experiment in choral work. This class goes further in technical aspects of acting including projection and diction. $240 - includes lunch each day from Sorella's.

Heavy Metal Basics with James Clarkston

Learn the tricks and techniques that define Metal Guitar. Use of pedals, two handed tapping, scale theory, and improvising. Students will play songs and solos by legendary influential bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Guns N Roses, Metallica, and more. $150 - students must bring their own electric guitar.

Passion Guitar with James Clarkston

Learn the passion and glory that is Flamenco Guitar! Study strumming techniques, rest strokes, phrasing . . . just to name a few. Imagine playing solo guitar like a pro. Use of the Harmonic Minor Scale and play songs by modern artists like Ottmar Liebert as well as traditional songs like Malaguena. $150 - for students with their own guitar. A rental guitar for the week is $25. Optional lunch from Sorella's is $40 served right after camp.
