James teaches beginners-advanced players. Classic Rock, Pop, Country, Folk, Jazz, Blues & Classical-Flamenco are his areas of experience. He started out playing 80’s and 90’s rock music. He loves The Beatles! James studied Jazz and Classical Guitar in college and fell in love with Nouveau Flamenco Guitar. He has taught at La Jolla Music since 2014 and has over 25 years of teaching experience in public, private and charter schools. James has opened for such acts as the Grammy Nominated guitar duo Strunz & Farah. James was booked to perform at a private party in honor of former President George H. W. Bush. His original song “Dos Guitarras” has been played on NPR. James takes great pride in connecting with students of all ages and musical levels. Basic music theory, technique and music history are incorporated into each lesson. Students will learn how to strum and sing, as well as how to improvise & write songs. Former students have gone on to start their own bands. James performs around La Jolla on a regular basis at Hennessey’s Tavern, Hotel La Jolla and numerous private events.
