Jim Owen

Mr. Owen started his music career by being the first guitarist ever to win the Redlands Bowl Young Artists' Audition. His subsequent tour with the Lola Montes Spanish Dance Troupe was cut short by a stint in the U.S. Army Special Forces. After completing graduate studies at UCSD, he taught guitar classes at SD City College, was a music consultant for the San Diego Unified School District, continues to teach music classes every summer for the popular Gateways School, & has been teaching many different instruments at La Jolla Music since 1977.

His approach to teaching varies according to the wishes of the student. If there is a specific song or songs that they would like to learn, he can usually listen to the song & then show the student how to play the melody &/or chords. Mr. Owen has always LOVED playing music, & hopes to enable others to experience that joy. Music should be FUN!
